RAIN A BOOST FOR ANGLERS
The rain this week will be a boost to local anglers with
some good falls recorded which will help freshen up those
dams and rivers that haven’t had any fresh water
inflows for some years. This should get the fish moving
as the water starts to settle.
GLENLYON DAM
The full moon last weekend got a few cod moving at Glenlyon
dam with a couple of cod just under the meter mark. Local
angler “Pud” Keith Fittkau landed and released
a nice 95cm cod last weekend caught on a lure while on
a Southern Cross Fishing Club trip. A few reasonable yellowbelly
were taken on spinner baits and Chatterbaits along with
a few on live shrimp and worms.
LESLIE DAM
Leslie dam has been consistently producing reasonable yellowbelly
over the past few weeks and once again this week there
were quite a few landed both trolling (Hero and Oargee)
lures and also on live worms and shrimp.
CRESSBROOK DAM
With the recent rain, working the edges with blades, chatterbaits
and Gobo poppers would be the go as there were plenty bass
(small) landed last weekend on blades and Rip’n Minnows
around the edges.
GOONDIWINDI
There were a few yellowbelly taken in the town reaches,
but you had to work for them, also a few yellowbelly and
the odd small cod taken downstream mainly on live bait.
COOBY DAM
With the recent rain we should see a little more action
at Cooby Dam where there were a few yellowbelly taken while
fishing off the bank using live worms and shrimp and lets
hope the windy conditions settle down.
SOMERSET DAM
Somerset Dam has been hard work but if you persevere there
are some quality bass taken on blades, but with another
inflow of water earlier this week things could remain tough.
TEXAS
The town reaches at Texas have been quiet, however there
were a few small cod taken upstream of the Bonshaw weir,
also a few undersize (Minimum length 60cm) cod caught and
released.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT – EASTER
If you intend heading offshore at the coast this Easter,
it would be wise to make sure your flares have not expired,
(There is an expiry date stamped on the flares) and if
you need an EPIRB you must have the new 406MHZ and is registered
with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
MAROOCHY
The Maroochy river has a fresh from the recent rain and
the best fishing has been at the mouth for flathead, while
the canals at Mooloolaba fished well for flalthead, mud
crabs and the odd mangrove. A couple of the bigger charter
boats landed a few spanish off shore on Monday.
SOUTHPORT
There were plenty of mackerel landed at Mermaid beach reef
on Monday, but has been too windy since then, but the seaway
produced a few tailor off the North wall along with the
odd Mulloway, plenty mud crabs and flathead throughout
the system.
NOOSA
A few macherel taken on Monday morning in the bay but too
rough since while the river produced plenty of mud crabs,
flathead and the odd mangrove jack.
TWEED
Early this week (Monday) some of the bigger boats got offshore
and landed plenty of mackerel, but the windy conditions
have stopped any offshore fishing but plenty of mud crabs
and flathead in the Tweed river.
CALOUNDRA
Too rough for offshore fishing but the passage fished well
for mud crabs out from Bells Creek, whiting and flathead
throughout the passage, bream off the boardwalk and the
odd mangrove jack in the Pelican waters canals.
